Week 1 Reflection

 Terms and Definitions: 

Checklist- An composed list of skills/behaviors/goals can be checked if completed.

Rating Scales- A composed list of skills/behaviors/goals can be measured by performance levels.

Rubrics- A composed list of skills/behaviors/goals can be measured by performance levels, with detailed expectations for each level of a skill/behavior/goal.

Objective- Based on facts and data collected from observations, is not biased or swayed by feelings or opinions. 

Subjective- Can be interpreted differently based on feelings, opinions, personal thoughts, etc.

Running Records- A description of an observation using detailed wording of what happened in chronological order.

Anecdotal Record- A brief description of a scene limited to a specific moment describing what, where, and when. 

Time Sampling- Used to record the number of times a behavior occurs over a specific time period.

Event Sampling- Used to identify why a behavior is happing and what caused it, usually written in ascendent, behavior, and the consequence.

Formative Assessment- Used to assess knowledge learned during lessons, can be done often, and is low stakes.

Summative assessment- Assessment is given after teaching, high-stakes, done mainly after unit.

Diagnostic- assessment to see what you previously know. 

How can this be used in my future classroom?

    Assessment in the classroom is key to having an understanding of what students already know, how effective is your teaching strategy, and what knowledge was gained after the lesson. Diagnostic assessments are a way to know what your students learned before a lesson this way if they already mastered a skill it is not being retaught. As a teacher, formative assessments are helpful for you to see what ways of teaching resonated and what areas need to be retaught and modify your teaching strategy. Samples of this could be exit tickets and quizzes. Summative assessments are great for knowing what they learned from the lesson/unit. Assessments are a great tool for collecting data however, it is important to not teach to match the assessment but to teach to all the different forms of intelligences.

    Assessment can also be used to help track development in young students. One best way
to do so is by using checklists.
